NEWS - 16th OCTOBER 2007 RAIL IS LOWER GREENHOUSE GAS THAN ROAD FREIGHT Transport produces 14.4% of all greenhouse gas emissions in Australia, Rail produces 0.37%. Rail produces 3 times less greenhouse gas emissions than articulated truck or semi-trailer road freight, 9.5 to 11.7 times less greenhouse gas emissions than rigid truck road freight. One freight train can take 150 semi trailers off the road.
