QRNATIONAL INTERMODAL LAUNCHES NEW SERVICES TO PERTH
QR’s national freight expansion plans are firmly on track with the launch of its East - West QRNational
Intermodal services from Melbourne to Perth.
“In the Intermodal area, we are determined to establish a complete national freight business from Cairns
to Perth and this launch completes an integral component of this strategy” said Mr John Montague,
General Manager Sales & Marketing of QRNational Intermodal division.
“Our primary objective underpinning this strategy is to source a competitive share of current and future
rail freight business on the East - West corridor while adding to our already established services on
corridors on the East Coast of Australia”, he said.
QRNational Intermodal has secured some prime pathing on the corridor that will enable their customers’
products to arrive into Perth with freight availability early morning.
QRNational Intermodal’s ability to secure these paths which include departures ex Melbourne on Tuesday’s,
Thursday’s and Friday’s work within the Perth market receival windows of Friday, Sunday and Monday delivery
day requirements.
“The market has been seeking an alternative on this corridor for a long time and we believe our entrance
offer customers a real national choice from Cairns to Perth,” said Mr Montague.
“Truly commercially sustainable competition will enable the rail industry to take the forefront in the
anticipated growth of the freight sector into the next 10 years and QRNational’s launch into the important
Perth corridor enhances our position for customers to get their freight on an environmentally sustainable
platform in this growing corridor”
The new QRNational Intermodal services will operate from North Dynon in Melbourne to a new purpose built
facility in Forrestfield currently under construction in Perth’s Industrial hub.

It’s official: rail is the outright winner in the rail vs. road debate.
With ongoing investments in rail infrastructure, rail offers an alternative ‘greener’ transport mode
that is energy efficient, offers minimal road congestion, higher fuel efficiencies, and is responsible
for lower forms of pollution including greenhouse gas emissions compared to road transport.
