As the drought in South East Queensland shows no signs of ending soon, the QR Water Reduction Campaign team
has been busy.
Stepping up efforts to meet our targets and providing staff with tips and advice on how they can make
a difference. QR staff have been focussed on cutting back on water consumption as the organisation continues
to strive towards water reduction targets.
Team work has been the name of the game, with staff across QR rallying to the cause to make a difference. Here
is a quick snapshot of just some of the progress made in the last few months:
• Retrofi tting works are 75 per cent complete in Mayne Rail Yard.
• Roma Street station retrofi tting has begun with works expected to be completed by the end of March. Work
is being completed at night to minimise disruption to the public.
• Weekend retrofi tting blitzes by the ISG Maintenance Plumbers on Zillmere, Sandgate, Narangba, Woodridge
and Beenleigh Citytrain stations.
• Central, Roma St, Mayne Yard/Control Centre undergoing retrofitting.
• A statewide audit on water use has been carried out by Luke Stephan of QRNational, with recommendations
from his report to be used to determine works.
• Signage on fences at Acacia Ridge terminal displays the water saving achievements of this site.
• Audits of administration buildings across the state is well underway.
Regional Freight has a strong focus on improving their environmental management and has embraced
the challenge.
